  1. A Place Shaped by Centuries in the Llémana Valley

Tucked into the quiet folds of the Llémena Valley in Girona, Hotel Vall Amagada del Molí holds the essence of a place shaped by centuries of life and memory. On the edge of Garrotxa, with forested hills, a nearby river, and views of Roca Corba, it has always been more than a building, a place where people pause, gather, and begin again.

For generations, this land sustained those who lived in step with the valley’s seasons. It was a place of movement and exchange, of silence and purpose. From the sound of turning wheels to quiet talks between neighbors, El Molí wove itself into the fabric of Garrotxa. People came to make, to share, to shelter, and to endure, adapting with the times while holding on to what was essential. Today, those same traditions quietly shape the spirit of the hotel.

While the valley around it changed, El Molí remained a presence. It stood through moments of uncertainty and calm alike, always connected to the people who lived and worked nearby. Its story is not marked by grand monuments or headlines but by tradition, resilience, and the enduring charm of rural Catalunya.

Today, Hotel Vall Amagada del Molí carries this inheritance forward. Not as a museum or a simple restoration, but as a boutique hotel where history blends with comfort, atmosphere, and the slow rhythm of the Catalan countryside. Here, guests are invited not just to stay, but to immerse themselves in nature, savor each moment, and reconnect with the landscapes and stories that have shaped this valley for centuries.

1789

1789 – The First Records of El Molí in Llémana Valley

The main structure of El Molí was completed around this year as a traditional Catalan flour mill, built along the banks of the Llémena river. It belonged to the Clascar family, one of the oldest landowning families in the valley. Powered by water from the river, the mill played a key role in local life by grinding grain for nearby farms. The original mill pond and thick stone walls still reflect the quiet strength of this early agricultural period.

1830

  • 1830 – Industrial Beginnings and River-Powered Production

By the early 19th century, El Molí had become more than a mill. It served as a central point of exchange for the valley, where residents of surrounding masias and hamlets came together to trade not only flour, but also meat, oil, fruit, and other produce. This gathering of people laid the foundation for what would later become the village of Sant Esteve de Llémena, with El Molí at its heart.

1872

  • 1872 – Changes in the Catalan Countryside

During the Third Carlist War, the hills surrounding the Llémena Valley became a stronghold of Carlist forces. The nearby Sanctuary of Finestres was the site where General Savalls was appointed Commander of the Carlist army in Catalonia. El Molí and the surrounding properties supported the movement, serving as a point of passage and supply during this turbulent time.

1944

  • 1944 – War, Resilience, and Community Spirit

In the years after the Civil War, El Molí became an outpost for the Guardia Civil. A place once rooted in community and quiet labor was now marked by surveillance and control. For the people of the valley, this shift symbolised a loss of freedom, as familiar spaces took on new meaning under the regime’s watch. What was once a place of gathering became a quiet reminder of fear and obedience.

  • 2001 – A New Chapter Begins for El Molí

In this year, El Molí began its new chapter as a rural tourism estate. The house welcomed guests just as it had stood for generations, offering simplicity, space, and a strong sense of place. Surrounded by forest and fields, it became a peaceful stay for families and travelers drawn to nature and authenticity. For 24 years, it remained one of the most quietly cherished getaways in the valley.

2024

  • 2024 – Transformation Plans for a Boutique Hotel

This year marked a new beginning. as we, Karel and Robin, became the next custodians of El Molí, we were drawn to its quiet beauty and timeless character. With deep respect for its history and a clear vision for its future, we began shaping it into Hotel Vall Amagada del Molí. A place where calm, comfort, and a sense of wonder come together, rooted in the landscape that first inspired us.
