A Boutique Hotel in Catalonia Where Nature Meets Comfort

Building something that lasts means caring for more than what is inside these walls.

True hospitality has always been rooted in reciprocity. A place that takes from its surroundings without giving back does not last. At Vall Amagada, sustainability is not a label to carry or a box to tick. It is the foundation on which every decision here is made.

We believe prosperity is only real when it is shared. Not just by those passing through, but by the people who live here, work here, and call this valley home long after every guest has left.

This shapes the energy we run on, the food we serve, the people we work with, and the way we engage with our comarca. Every choice is an opportunity to strengthen the place we are lucky enough to be part of, and to help the valley thrive for generations to come.

What follows is not a policy document. It is a reflection of how we try to operate, day by day, in a place we are deeply proud to call our own.

ENVIRONMENT

  • Crafting a rural boutique hotel in Catalunya

Vall Amagada runs almost entirely on electricity. Heating, hot water, and all major building systems have been fully electrified, leaving only a minimal gas footprint in the kitchen where cooking demands it. Every element of the hotel has been designed from the ground up for a greener future. Solar panels are planned for phase two of the renovation, taking the hotel further toward energy independence. Beyond energy, the majority of food and consumables are sourced locally, reducing transport footprint and keeping quality and spending within the region we call home.

SOCIAL SUSTAINABILITY

  • Request your stay at our boutique rural hotel

More than 90 percent of our staff, suppliers, and service providers come from our comarca or the wider Girona province. Sourcing employment outside the province is the exception, not the rule.

Every euro spent on services, produce, or labour is an investment in the area around us. Where local projects need support, we show up and contribute where we can.

LONG TERM VISION

  • Boutique hotel amenities for active travelers

The ambition is not only to run a good hotel but to become a genuine part of this place. To draw more visitors to the Garrotxa and the Llémena valley, to spark curiosity about a region that deserves far greater attention, and to do all of it while leaving as light a footprint as possible. Not extracting from a destination but investing in one. Becoming a local staple that adds to the fabric of the area rather than sitting apart from it, and making sure the valley is more alive for our presence here than it would have been without it.

We are guests in a paradise we are lucky enough to call home. The goal is to behave like it, protect it, and pass it on in better shape than we found it.

COMMUNITY

  • Historic Catalan watermill and masia heritage

Being here is a privilege, and Vall Amagada takes that seriously. The goal is to be genuinely embedded in local culture, not simply adjacent to it. That means engaging with the people, the traditions, and the everyday life of the comarca in a way that goes beyond what a hotel is expected to do. We believe a business only truly belongs to a place when the place feels it belongs to them.

Robin and Karel chose to learn Catalan before Spanish, a deliberate sign of respect for the language and the people of this valley. That integration is well underway, and Spanish has since followed naturally as the next step.
